Why do some streams in my DistroKid earnings report show earnings of zero?

A line can show streams and zero earnings because that listening was not paid (free trials and promotions), because it was worth a fraction of a cent in the listener’s country, or because it sits below a store’s minimum. Which of those applies to which line is only visible in your own rows, by store and country.

The reasons DistroKid’s help centre gives

DistroKid has an article titled “Why Do Some Streams in My Earnings Report Show Earnings of Zero?”. As summarised in search results, it points to free trials and promotions, which are not paid, and to revenue being divided by the listener’s country, so streams in some countries can earn less than a penny. We could not open the page, so confirm the wording there.

Why “less than a penny” can look like zero

A single stream is worth a small fraction of a cent. Published estimates for Spotify sit around $0.003–$0.005 (RouteNote, May 2025; Royalty Exchange, July 2026), and a low-paying country can be well under that. A line carrying few streams at such a rate may be rounded to zero or close to it on the statement, depending on how the line is rounded. That is a presentation effect, not a missing payment, but only the numbers on your lines can show which it is.

A possible minimum

RouteNote (May 2025) says Spotify applies a 1,000-stream minimum per track before it pays. We have not confirmed that independently. If it holds, a quiet track could have streams counted and nothing paid. Check Spotify’s current terms.

How to find your zero rows

Open the statement and filter to lines with a quantity above zero and earnings of zero. Group them by store and by country. If they cluster in one free-tier store or a few countries, that matches the explanations above. If a big paying store and country shows streams with nothing paid, ask support about those specific lines.

Sources and how far to trust them

Last checked October 15, 2026. Sources marked “read as a summary” are pages we could see only as a search-result summary because the page itself would not open for us; we have kept those claims general and not quoted numbers from them. Per-stream figures are estimates from the two dated articles named below; none of them are ours.
